Love's a cruel master

You have a cruel heart
That's my thought before dawn breaks
Hidden in darkness

I feel like crying
Instead I show a brave face
To greet the morning

Good, it is raining
Those sad tears will not be seen
Washed away now

Love's a cruel master
I have been whipped once again
And learned nothing

Charity's my name
I give but get nothing back
No satisfaction

There are two answers
Red wine or dark chocolate
I think I'll have both

  7. Hmmm, I don't think red wine or chocolate would compensate for the whipping and giving everything and getting nothing back.

  8. But they will never fill that space love has left. Never really.
I feel you on giving and getting nothing back. I think we have made love into something so hard to live up to, at times.

  18. I once had a magnet on my fridge that read: "Every day I fall in love with you more and more. Well, not every day ... yesterday you were pretty annoying." Indeed, love is a cruel master. Keep that red wine and dark chocolate, close by. Smiles.

  27. Old Egg,

The pick-me-up should give a modicum of satisfaction. There is little that can ease the immediate pain of a broken heart..Only time. Superb poem.
